Hefei Surpasses 10M: China’s New Urban Giant

Hefei has just joined an exclusive club as the 18th city in China to exceed 10 million permanent residents! According to the 2024 Annual Population Sample Survey of East China's Anhui Province, the provincial capital now boasts 10.002 million residents and an impressive urbanization rate of 86.38%.

The survey also revealed that Anhui's total permanent residents reached 61.23 million by the end of 2024, marking a slight increase from 2023. This significant milestone highlights Hefei's rapid urban development and its rising role as a key economic center.

Interestingly, out of the 17 Chinese cities with over 10 million residents – including giants like Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou – 15 also enjoy a GDP exceeding one trillion yuan. This shows a clear trend: major cities with huge populations are often powerhouses of economic growth.

Looking ahead, other emerging cities in the Yangtze River Delta region, such as Wenzhou, Ningbo, Nanjing, and Xuzhou, which already have over 9 million residents, might soon join the 10 million club. This urban evolution is a dynamic reminder of how cities across China are transforming into economic and cultural hubs. 🚀🌆
