In a strong statement during the annual national legislative session, a spokesperson for the Chinese military emphasized that the recent supply of U.S. weapons to Taiwan authorities will not alter the island's inevitable reunification with the Chinese mainland.
Wu Qian, representing the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the People’s Armed Police Force, highlighted that increased patrols around Taiwan and enhanced military deterrence have become standard practices in recent years.
"The more rampant 'Taiwan independence' separatists become, the tighter the noose around their necks and the sharper the sword hanging over their heads will be," Wu stated, addressing concerns about external influences on what he described as an internal affair of China.
Wu further asserted, "China's reunification is an overriding trend, driven not only by strength but also by the will of the people." He criticized the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities for escalating separatist actions, arguing that relying on U.S. support for 'Taiwan independence' only fuels tensions and backlash from compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
The spokesperson concluded by warning that history and justice will hold accountable those who provoke separatism, reinforcing the PLA's commitment to countering such movements and promoting reunification.
