At the recent session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), member Wang Dinghua, also the Party secretary of Beijing Foreign Studies University, underscored the critical role of promoting the "educator spirit" and enhancing the status of teachers in our digital age.
Wang highlighted that the Chinese mainland is nurturing a high-quality teaching force of 18.91 million full-time teachers, known for their strong ethics and skills. Emphasizing the need for high-quality and balanced educational development, he called on teachers to embody the "educator spirit," taking inspiration from esteemed figures like Confucius, Tao Xingzhi, Zhang Guimei, and Yu Yi.
He further advocated for improved teacher benefits and policies to attract top talent, making the teaching profession more desirable. Wang also emphasized the importance of holistic education, which includes moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor development, along with equitable resource distribution and teacher rotation.
Recognizing the transformative impact of artificial intelligence and the changing needs of digitally native students, Wang urged teachers to pursue professional development through national and provincial programs. This focus on continuous improvement aims to equip educators with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the digital age.
The remarks were made during the third session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, where CPPCC members engaged with the public and media at the Members' Corridor.
