👁️ Bright Journey: Bringing Clear Vision to Maldives’ Outer Islands

The Maldives' breathtaking landscapes are a paradise for travelers, but the same geography presents serious healthcare challenges for its residents. Thousands of Maldivians suffer from eye conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy, with many struggling to access necessary treatments due to a shortage of ophthalmologists, especially on the outer islands.

Since 2016, Chinese medical teams have been on a mission to transform eye care in the Maldives through the inspiring "Bright Journey" initiative. This program offers free eye screenings and surgeries, making a significant impact on the lives of those in need.

In 2020, the China-Maldives International Ophthalmology Center was established, equipped with state-of-the-art technology to enhance local eye care services. Over the past decade, seven Chinese medical teams have treated over 6,000 patients and performed 700 surgeries, bringing not only improved vision but also hope and renewal to the communities they serve.

This collaboration highlights the power of international partnerships in addressing critical healthcare shortages. By bridging gaps in medical expertise and resources, the Bright Journey initiative is lighting the way to a brighter, clearer future for the Maldives.
