China Achieves Key Grain and Energy Milestones for 14th Five-Year Plan

China is on track to meet its ambitious 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) targets, securing both food and energy safety for the nation. 🌾⚡

The Plan identifies grain production capacity and energy as two critical indicators of the country's economic and social development. By maintaining overall grain output above 650 million tons, China has achieved a historic milestone, surpassing 700 million tons in 2024 for the first time! 🎉

China's dedication to agriculture is evident with over 1 billion mu (about 66.7 million hectares) of high-standard farmland developed and an expansive irrigation network spanning over 10 million kilometers by the end of 2024. 🚜💧

In the energy sector, China has solidified its position as the world's largest energy producer. In 2023, total primary energy output reached 4.83 billion tons of standard coal, marking a significant leap from 1949 with an average annual growth rate of 7.4%. 📈🌟

The 14th Five-Year Plan also emphasizes accelerating the energy revolution, focusing on building a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient energy system. A major transformation has been the shift from traditional power sources to renewable energy. By the end of 2023, renewable energy power generation capacity surpassed half of the total installed capacity for the first time in history. 🌱🔋

According to the National Energy Administration, renewable energy dominated China's newly installed power capacity in 2024, comprising 86% of the total. The cumulative installed renewable energy capacity reached a record high of 56% of the nation's total. 🔝🌍

Adding to these achievements, China's first-ever energy law, effective January 1, 2025, aims to promote high-quality energy development, ensure national energy security, accelerate green transition, and support the country's efforts to achieve carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals. 📜✅
