Wang Yi Leads UN Debate on Multilateralism & Global Peace 🌏🤝

🌐 On February 18, Chinese Minister for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi took the lead at the United Nations Security Council by chairing an open debate titled \"Practicing Multilateralism, Reforming, and Improving Global Governance.\" The focus? \"Maintenance of International Peace and Security.\"

🎉 This year marks a huge milestone: the 80th anniversary of the United Nations and the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War. Under China's presidency of the Council, member states came together to reflect on the UN's history, renew their commitment to working together, and build a fairer global governance system.

📈 Wang Yi highlighted how the past 80 years have seen the world become more multi-polar and economically globalized. With the rise and growing strength of the Global South, societies have moved beyond the Cold War's shadow and double-sided confrontations. Yet, achieving true global peace and shared prosperity is still a work in progress.

🗣️ \"The international community learned hard lessons from the devastation of two world wars, leading to the birth of the United Nations,\" Wang Yi remarked. He emphasized the importance of revitalizing true multilateralism and speeding up efforts to create a more just and equitable global governance system amidst ongoing global crises.

🇺🇦 On the topic of Ukraine, Wang Yi reiterated China’s support for all peace talks. In the Middle East, he stressed the importance of the two-state solution, affirming that Gaza and the West Bank are the homeland of the Palestinian people and should remain so in post-conflict governance.

🔒 Wang Yi also underscored that UN Security Council resolutions are legally binding and must be respected by all nations.
