China and Spain Strengthen Ties, Embrace Multilateralism at Munich Summit

At the Munich Security Conference, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares Bueno reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting multilateralism.

Wang Yi emphasized the importance of practicing true multilateralism to advance an equal and orderly multipolar world. He highlighted that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership and the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union. Wang expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Spain to implement the leaders' consensus, aiming for more significant outcomes in their bilateral relations.

He also called for increased stability in the development of China-EU relations and welcomed more Spanish companies to invest in the Chinese market. Key areas for cooperation include the digital economy and artificial intelligence, which are seen as pivotal for future growth.

Wang highlighted the need to promote democracy in international relations and build a broad global consensus amidst the interconnected international landscape.

Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares Bueno echoed these sentiments, expressing Spain's willingness to enhance high-level exchanges and expand mutually beneficial cooperation. Bueno emphasized Spain's support for multilateralism, the authority of the United Nations, and the acceleration of progress on the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Both ministers agreed to elevate Spain-China relations to a new level, fostering a partnership that not only benefits their respective countries but also contributes to global stability and prosperity.
