Fu Ying Advocates for Global AI Cooperation to Keep Tech in Human Hands 🤝🤖

At the Paris AI Action Summit on Monday, former Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying emphasized that global cooperation is the key to keeping the power of AI under human control. 🌐✨

Fu highlighted the challenges in China-U.S. AI collaboration, pointing out that ongoing geopolitical tensions have hindered scientific partnerships between the two nations. She noted, \"If countries confront AI on their own, AI has the potential to beat humankind.\" This calls for a united approach to ensure AI benefits everyone.

She painted a picture of the current landscape: while U.S. tech companies are leading in the virtual AI world backed by massive investments, China is rapidly advancing AI applications across real-world industries like healthcare, finance, and urban management. 🏥🏢

Fu stressed that combining these strengths is crucial for the safe and responsible use of AI. However, she expressed concern over the lack of cooperation due to geopolitical interference, which poses risks to AI safety.

China has been proactive in regulating AI, releasing the New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan in 2017 to ensure AI progress is safe, controllable, and sustainable. The country is also pushing for global initiatives, such as the Global AI Governance Initiative and supporting the Bletchley Declaration, to foster international collaboration on AI safety.

Fu concluded by highlighting the importance of maintaining open communication with international peers and aligning on AI safety issues. The summit brought together AI experts, policymakers, and industry leaders from around the world to discuss the future of AI development and governance.
