Just over a week before the vibrant celebrations of Spring Festival 🎆, families in Zhujiagou Village, in northeast China's Liaoning Province, are prepping for the Lunar New Year in brand-new homes! 🏠✨
Last August, torrential rains ⛈️ wreaked havoc in Suizhong County, impacting 185,000 residents across 110 villages. Zhujiagou Village was one of the hardest hit, with roads washed out, over 70 hectares of farmland flooded 🌊, and more than 50 homes damaged.
But hope wasn't lost! 🙌 The community rallied together, and by October 24, 2024, all 186 villagers from 41 affected households moved into their new digs on higher ground. 🚚🏡
Braving the freezing temperatures ❄️, President Xi Jinping took time out of his busy schedule to visit Zhujiagou on Wednesday. Xi, also the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, checked out the post-disaster restoration and chatted with locals about their new homes and daily lives. 🧤☕
\"Huludao suffered severe flooding last year. I have been concerned about you and came to see you before the Spring Festival,\" Xi told the villagers. \"What I've seen today makes me feel relieved.\" 😊
'People Can Always Count on the Party and Government'
Xi emphasized that despite the natural disasters across the country last year, he's confident that restoration efforts will pay off. \"We have always put the people first,\" he said. \"The people can always count on the Party and the government in their most difficult times, and we will help them overcome difficulties and rebuild their homes.\" 🏗️❤️
This heartfelt visit continues Xi's 13-year tradition of connecting with people at the grassroots level ahead of the Spring Festival. From helping villagers calculate household expenses to making traditional snacks like ciba 🍡, his hands-on approach has left many heartwarming memories.
