China Brokers Ceasefire Between Myanmar Government and Kokang Armed Group

China has stepped up as a peace mediator, successfully brokering a ceasefire between the Myanmar government and the Kokang's Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA). 🎉 This agreement, effective from January 18, marks a significant stride toward peace in the region.

At a regular press conference on Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning announced the breakthrough. She shared that under China's mediation, the Myanmar government and the MNDAA held their seventh round of peace talks in Kunming, southwest China's Yunnan Province, in mid-January. Both parties expressed gratitude for China's efforts in facilitating the successful outcome of the talks.

\"The easing of tensions in northern Myanmar is in the common interests of various parties in Myanmar and the region,\" Mao Ning stated. She emphasized that the ceasefire would contribute to the security, stability, and development of the China-Myanmar border area.

As friendly neighbors, China firmly opposes any conflict or unrest in Myanmar. Mao Ning expressed hope that all parties will maintain the momentum of the ceasefire and peace talks, earnestly implement the consensus reached, proactively de-escalate tensions, and resolve related issues through further dialogue and consultations.

She added that China will continue to actively promote peace talks and provide support and assistance for the peace process in northern Myanmar. \"China will firmly support Myanmar's efforts to safeguard its independence, sovereignty, national unity, and territorial integrity,\" Mao Ning affirmed.

This development is a beacon of hope for peace in the region and showcases China's role in promoting stability and harmony among its neighbors. ✨
