💔 Hearts were heavy in Xizang on Monday as hundreds gathered for a solemn memorial service to honor the victims of the devastating magnitude-6.8 earthquake that struck Dingri County earlier this month.
The ceremony took place at 9:30 a.m. in Chamco Township, the area hardest hit by the quake. Rescue workers from various fronts, government officials, and local residents stood side by side, removing their hats and observing three minutes of silence to remember the 126 lives lost.
The earthquake, which rattled the region on January 7, impacted over 61,500 people and left more than 27,000 homes damaged or destroyed. Dingri County, home to the northern base camp of the world's highest peak, Mount Qomolangma 🗻, is now a scene of resilience as communities come together to support one another.
Local authorities and volunteers are working tirelessly to provide relief and rebuild what was lost. The spirit of unity and strength is palpable, reminding us all of the power of community in the face of tragedy.
