📸 Infrared cameras in the Saihan Wula National Nature Reserve in Chifeng City, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China, have captured some wild footage! 🦌✨
Manchurian wapiti, a protected species, have been spotted bellowing and battling it out for territory and mates. The dramatic scenes feature adult male deer showcasing their strength and vying for attention during the peak of their mating season.
According to experts at the reserve, deer bellowing reaches its peak in September and October as males attempt to attract females.
To better understand and protect these majestic creatures, researchers have installed 59 infrared cameras throughout the reserve. They're also using GPS collars and DNA analysis to track the wapiti population. This tech-savvy approach provides vital data on their behavior and helps in crafting effective conservation strategies. 📡🔬
Good news: the Manchurian wapiti population is on the rise! 🎉 According to the Chifeng Wild Plant and Animal Protection Association, recent monitoring shows that their numbers across seven reserves in the region have grown to approximately 12,000. That's a win for wildlife conservation! 🥳
