China and Germany are taking their friendship to the next level! 🎉 On Monday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock co-chaired the seventh round of the China-Germany Strategic Dialogue on Diplomacy and Security in Beijing.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the all-round strategic partnership between the two nations. Wang Yi, who’s also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the importance of looking back at their journey and exploring future possibilities. He noted that China has seen Germany as an important partner ever since they established diplomatic relations 52 years ago.
“As the world’s second and third-largest economies, we need to overcome disturbances, eliminate obstacles, and stick to dialogue and cooperation,” Wang said. “Let’s reject the old Cold War mindset and tackle global challenges together!”
Baerbock agreed, highlighting that Germany values its relationship with China and firmly adheres to the one-China policy. “In these turbulent times, maintaining open dialogue and strengthening strategic communication with China is super important,” she said. “It helps guide our bilateral relations in the right direction and contributes to world peace and stability.”
She added that Germany appreciates China’s active role in fighting climate change. 🌱
But it's not all smooth sailing. Wang pointed out that the European Union's high tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles aren't cool, saying they violate fair competition and free trade principles. He urged the EU and Germany to view China’s development rationally and resolve trade disputes through dialogue.
Baerbock responded by saying that Germany supports ongoing negotiations between the EU and China to find a win-win solution. “Fair competition is key,” she said.
