Cambodia’s New Bridge Makes Waves: Underwater Construction Begins 🌉

Cambodia is making waves 🌊—literally! The Chinese-built bridge project across the Mekong River has officially started underwater construction in Phnom Penh's southeastern part. 🎉

This isn't just any bridge; it's a 1.6-kilometer-long concrete marvel, coupled with a 2.1-kilometer connecting road. Built by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), the project is set to be completed in 48 months. ⏳

At the recent kickoff event, So Victor, Secretary of State of the Cambodian Ministry of Public Works and Transport, shared his excitement. \"This bridge will boost our infrastructure, drive economic growth, and enhance regional connectivity,\" he said.

Wu Jinhai, CRBC Cambodia Office's Executive General Manager, echoed the enthusiasm. He called the project another fruit of Cambodia-China cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) 🌐, and a testament to the iron-clad friendship between the two countries.

But what does this mean for the locals? For residents like Sok Khna, a 53-year-old from Kean Svay district, the bridge is a game-changer. \"This bridge is vital for everyday people and civil servants to travel and communicate,\" he told us. \"Plus, traveling across it will be free, helping to reduce poverty.\" 🙌

Currently, crossing the river by ferry costs both time and money—1,000 riel ($0.25) for a motorcycle and 10,000 riel ($2.50) for a car, taking about half an hour. With the new bridge, those days will soon be over. 🚗💨

Young locals like 21-year-old Khat Vichara are also thrilled. \"This bridge will bring so many advantages, making travel easier, reducing expenses, and saving time,\" she said.

As underwater construction kicks off, Cambodia is one step closer to a more connected future. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development! 🌉✨
