Guizhou's Golden Moment in Crossbow Shooting at National Ethnic Games 🎯
At the 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities of the People's Republic of China, the crowd in Sanya, south China's Hainan Province, witnessed a thrilling gold medal victory by Guizhou Province in the standard crossbow mixed team final on Monday.
Leading the charge was Liu Xingyu, a three-time participant in the event. With nerves of steel, Liu scored a crucial nine points on his last shot, sealing the win with an overall score of 191 points for Guizhou. Talk about hitting the bullseye! 🏹
Crossbow shooting isn't just a sport in southwest China—it’s a way of life, especially among the Miao and Yi ethnic groups of Yunnan, Guizhou, and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Historically used for hunting, the crossbow has evolved into a competitive and recreational sport that keeps cultural traditions alive.
\"I'm from the Miao ethnic group,\" Liu shared with CGTN Sports Scene's Zhu Mandan. \"We used to use the crossbow for hunting, but now we just use it for sporting events, and as a recreational sport. Shooting a crossbow is more like archery, except that it has a trigger like a rifle.\"
For Liu, participating in this event is more than just aiming for gold; it's about celebrating and preserving his heritage. \"Competing in this event promotes cultural and sporting exchanges among ethnic minority groups,\" he noted. \"And this is a great opportunity to further develop the traditional sports as well, so I'm very happy to be a part of this for the third time, and I hope there are many more to come.\"
This victory marks Guizhou’s second title in crossbow shooting at the Games, following Wang Renai’s win in the traditional crossbow men’s standing position final on Sunday. Looks like Guizhou is on a roll! 🥇
