Holiday Boom: Travel & Spending Soar on Golden Week

Get ready to feel those holiday vibes! 🎉 This year, the Chinese mainland’s combined National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday turned into an epic eight-day Golden Week. Thanks to gorgeous autumn weather and smart leave-stretching, people were eager to explore, shop, and chill.

Retail therapy hit new heights: sales at top shops and restaurants jumped 3.3% year on year. Green + smart gadgets dominated carts, with energy-saving appliances, smart fridges, and home devices booming on e-commerce platforms. Even the big screen got its moment—box office revenue topped ¥1.8 billion! 🍿

But the real star was travel. From October 1–8, the mainland saw an estimated 2.4 billion cross-regional trips (that’s 304 million a day!), up 6.2% year on year. Most of us hit the open road—self-driving made up about 80% of all journeys. 🚗

Longer breaks meant big adventures: people extended their Golden Week into a 12–16 day super vacation. Data from major booking platforms showed domestic long-distance bookings rose by 3%, and almost half of travelers chose 5–6 day itineraries.
