Inbound Tourism Surge: 173% Growth Over May Day on the Chinese Mainland

The May Day holiday on the Chinese mainland witnessed an incredible surge in inbound tourism orders, climbing to 173% compared to last year. This boost comes from a revamped departure tax refund policy that now offers refunds at the point of purchase—making shopping and travel even smoother for visitors. ✈️

East China's vibrant Shanghai is leading the charge by optimizing its tax refund environment during the holiday period. With a 37.1% increase in international visitors in the first quarter, Shanghai remains a top destination for culture and shopping experiences.

The city, piloting the refund-upon-purchase model, now features 587 tax refund stores, 284 of which actively offer the new service. Liu Min from the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce revealed that foreign visitor purchases reached 2.37 billion yuan, with 86,000 tax refund forms issued—an impressive 86.6% year-on-year increase.

This impressive trend highlights how smart policy changes on the Chinese mainland are fueling a tourism boom. It’s a win for young adventurers and savvy travelers, setting the stage for even more exciting journeys ahead. 🌟
