CSSC Delivers World’s First Ultra-Large LNG Dual-Fuel Ship

Big news in the shipping world! A subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC) has just delivered a record-breaking 24,000-TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship to France's CMA CGM Group in Shanghai. This ultra-large vessel, named CMA CGM SEINE, is making headlines as the world's first of its kind.

The ship’s cutting-edge dual-fuel power system lets it glide across the seas using liquefied natural gas or oil – a smart and greener solution for international shipping. With a staggering length of 399 meters and a width of 61.3 meters, it can carry up to 220,000 tonnes of goods and accommodate nearly 24,000 TEU containers, including 2,200 refrigerated ones. 🚢

Thanks to an 18,600-cubic-meter LNG fuel bunker, the ship is ready to sail almost 20,000 nautical miles. When compared to oil-powered vessels of similar dimensions, it cuts carbon dioxide emissions by about 20% and lowers nitrogen oxides by up to 85%, setting a new benchmark for environmentally friendly shipping.

This breakthrough marks an important milestone for CSSC, as it completes the construction of the ultra-large dual-fuel container ship – the first of four ordered by CMA CGM Group. Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding has already delivered 16 other container ships to the French giant, including 12 dual-fuel vessels, reinforcing its reputation for innovation and quality.

Scheduled to launch on a Far East-Europe route on April 18, this vessel is steering the global shipping industry towards a more sustainable future. Stay tuned as this game-changing ship charts a bold new course in maritime history!
