Next China is Still in the Chinese Mainland: FDI Quality Praised

In a lively debate on CGTN's "Talking China" show, experts celebrated the improved quality of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the Chinese mainland. The discussion highlighted booming sectors like medical equipment, professional technical services, and computer manufacturing – all fueling a dynamic economic landscape. 🚀

Wang Wen, dean of the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University, underscored that despite speculations about a massive capital withdrawal, the Chinese mainland remains one of the top three destinations for FDI globally. He noted that over 50,000 new foreign-invested enterprises were established in 2024, marking a 9.9% year-on-year increase, which demonstrates strong market confidence.

Moreover, non-financial outbound direct investment rose 10.5% in 2024, further cementing the region's role as a major global investor.

Li Cheng, founding director of the Center on Contemporary China and the World at the University of Hong Kong, added that concerns from some U.S. businesses are more about restrictive U.S. policies than about the underlying strengths of the Chinese mainland's market. He remarked, "If the Chinese mainland's market isn't good, then tell me — which market is good?"

These insights emphasize that the next chapter of economic growth is being written right here in the Chinese mainland. With surging investments and innovation driving progress, the future looks bright and bold. 🔥
