China Strikes Back Against U.S. Tariffs Citing Fentanyl Concerns

In a bold response, China has slammed the United States for imposing new tariffs on Chinese goods, claiming the fentanyl issue is just an excuse. 🇨🇳🇺🇸

At a press conference during the third session of the 14th National People's Congress in Beijing, China's Commerce Minister Wang Wentao emphasized that China has strict controls over fentanyl-related chemicals and is committed to global drug control efforts.

Wang criticized the U.S. for using fentanyl as a pretext to slap an additional 10% tariff on all Chinese imports, calling it an unfounded move. In retaliation, China has introduced a series of countermeasures, including a 15% tariff on imported chicken, wheat, corn, and cotton, and a 10% tariff on sorghum, soybeans, pork, beef, aquatic products, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products.

The Commerce Minister didn't hold back, labeling the U.S. tariff policy as a "classic case of harming others without benefiting itself." He pointed out that the announcement led to an immediate dip in the three major U.S. stock indices 📉.

Wang stressed that trade wars have no winners and that protectionism is a dead end. He called out the U.S. for its unilateral and bullying tactics, which are out of step with global trends and have faced widespread international opposition.

Highlighting the importance of cooperation, Wang asserted that China and the U.S. have much to gain from working together. He emphasized that mutual collaboration aligns with the interests of both nations' people and the global community 🌏✨.
