China's Commerce Ministry has firmly opposed the U.S. threat to impose an additional 10% tariff on goods imported from China starting March 4. The ministry emphasized that such unilateral tariffs violate World Trade Organization rules and harm the multilateral trading system.
A spokesperson for China's Commerce Ministry stated, \"China has repeatedly stressed that unilateral tariffs violate World Trade Organization rules and damage the multilateral trading system. China firmly opposes the U.S.' move.\"
The U.S. has cited the fentanyl issue as a reason for the latest tariff threat. However, China highlighted its stringent anti-drug policies and active international cooperation with countries, including the U.S., to combat drug-related issues.
Despite these efforts, the spokesperson pointed out that the U.S. has consistently ignored objective facts by imposing a 10% tariff on Chinese goods for what China views as unfounded reasons, and is now threatening additional tariffs.
China expressed hope that the U.S. would engage in equal dialogue to resolve differences but warned that it would take all necessary countermeasures to defend its legitimate rights and interests if the U.S. persists in its actions.
