Exciting news for travelers! 🌍 South Africa is set to make visiting easier for tourists from China and India. Starting mid-February, 65 selected tour operators from South Africa, India, and China will handle group visa applications through the new Trusted Tour Operator Scheme (TTOS).
Yusuf Simons, the Western Cape provincial manager at the Department of Home Affairs, shared that this initiative aims to boost tourism from these two populous countries. With China and India making up a significant portion of the world's population, South Africa is positioning itself as a top destination for group travelers.
“The TTOS is here to attract more tourists from China and India. By simplifying the visa process, we hope to see a surge in visitors, which will, in turn, grow our economy and create numerous jobs,” Simons explained.
One of the major perks of TTOS is the reduced visa processing time. Instead of waiting for three weeks, applications will now be approved within two to three days! 🕒 This streamlined process is perfect for group travelers who prefer a hassle-free experience.
In 2024, South Africa welcomed 41,651 tourists from China, marking an 11.4% increase from the previous year. However, the number of visitors from India saw a slight dip, with 75,541 tourists compared to last year.
With TTOS in its pilot phase, the Department of Home Affairs plans to onboard more tour operators, making it even easier for more travelers to explore the beauty and diversity South Africa has to offer.
