The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) is gearing up to challenge the United States over a new set of tariffs. On Friday, the HKSAR government announced it will file a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) in response to the U.S. decision to impose an additional 10-percent tariff on products coming from Hong Kong. 📈
According to a spokesperson for the HKSAR government, these U.S. measures seriously violate relevant WTO rules and overlook Hong Kong's status as a separate customs territory, as outlined in Article 116 of the Basic Law and recognized by the WTO.
\"We will initiate procedures in accordance with the WTO's dispute settlement mechanism to challenge these unreasonable measures and defend our legitimate rights,\" the spokesperson stated.
The HKSAR government emphasized its strong support for the rules-based multilateral trading system. They strongly oppose the U.S. measures and are urging the U.S. to immediately rectify these wrongdoings. ✊🌏
