China’s Spring Festival 2025 Sees 501M Trips & $93B Spending 🧳

The 2025 Spring Festival holiday, from January 28 to February 4, witnessed an incredible surge in tourism and spending across the Chinese mainland! 🎉

According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, during this 8-day period, a staggering 501 million domestic trips were made, marking a 5.9% increase year-on-year. Total domestic spending soared to 677 billion yuan ($93 billion), up by 7% from last year. 💰

One of the key drivers of this growth is that this year's Spring Festival was the first since the festival was added to UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This recognition has amplified interest in cultural tourism, with many flocking to renowned museums like the Palace Museum in Beijing, the Shaanxi History Museum in Xi'an, and the Sanxingdui Museum in Guanghan City, Sichuan Province. 🏛️

Traditional performances also stole the spotlight, featuring spectacular light shows and evening cultural events. For instance, enchanting fish-shaped lanterns lit up the skies in Huangshan City, while the vibrant Yingge dance, or \"dance to the hero's song,\" captivated audiences in Shantou City. These attractions encouraged many visitors to extend their stays and immerse themselves in the rich local culture. 🐟💃
