Mexico Strikes Back: President Sheinbaum Announces Retaliation Against U.S. Tariffs

Mexico City — Mexico is gearing up to hit back at the U.S. with its own tariffs and other measures! 🇲🇽⚔️ President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on Saturday that Mexico will retaliate against the tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Sheinbaum didn't hold back, rejecting Washington's accusations of her government having alliances with drug trafficking groups, calling it \"slander.\" 🙅‍♀️💥

\"We categorically reject the White House's slander that the Mexican government has alliances with criminal organizations, as well as any intention of meddling in our territory,\" Sheinbaum wrote in a lengthy post on X.

This fiery exchange comes after President Trump signed an order imposing tariffs on imports from Mexico, Canada, and China. 📜🔨

Despite the tension, Sheinbaum emphasized that Mexico seeks collaboration and dialogue with its northern neighbor. \"We do not seek confrontation,\" she stressed. 🤝🌎

The Mexican president, aiming to calm the waters, highlighted her government's achievements since taking office in October. These include seizing 20 million doses of the deadly synthetic opioid fentanyl and detaining over 100,000 individuals linked to drug trafficking. 🚨👮‍♂️

Meanwhile, north of the border, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada would impose 25% tariffs on C$155 billion ($106.5 billion) worth of U.S. goods in response. 🍁💲

\"C$30 billion worth of goods will take effect on Tuesday, while C$125 billion will be implemented in 21 days,\" Trudeau told a news conference.

Looks like trade tensions are heating up across North America! Stay tuned for more updates. 🔥🌐
