🇲🇽 Mexico is firing back! President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on Saturday that Mexico will retaliate against the tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump with its own tariffs and other measures.
In a bold move, Sheinbaum rejected Washington's accusation that her government has an alliance with drug trafficking groups, calling it \"slander.\" She emphasized that Mexico seeks collaboration and dialogue, not confrontation, with its northern neighbor.
\"We categorically reject the White House's slander that the Mexican government has alliances with criminal organizations, as well as any intention of meddling in our territory,\" Sheinbaum stated in a lengthy post on X (formerly Twitter).
🔥 The tension escalated after U.S. President Trump signed an order imposing tariffs on imports from Mexico, Canada, and China. But Mexico isn't standing down!
Sheinbaum highlighted her government's achievements since taking office in October, including seizing 20 million doses of the deadly synthetic opioid fentanyl and detaining over 10,000 individuals linked to drug trafficking. \"We don't seek conflict, but we won't stay silent when false accusations are thrown our way,\" she added.
🇨🇦 Meanwhile, Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is also responding. On Saturday, Trudeau announced that Canada would impose 25% tariffs on C$155 billion ($106.5 billion) worth of U.S. goods in response to U.S. tariffs. \"We're standing up for our nation's interests,\" Trudeau said.
🌐 With the trade tensions heating up, all eyes are on North America. Will this escalate into a full-blown trade war, or will cooler heads prevail?
Stay tuned for updates! ✨
