Mexico isn't backing down! 🇲🇽💥
On Saturday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that Mexico will hit back against U.S. tariffs with its own set of tariffs and measures. This bold move comes after U.S. President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on imports from Mexico, Canada, and the Chinese mainland.
Sheinbaum didn't hold back in her response to Washington's accusations that her government is allied with drug trafficking groups, calling it pure \"slander.\" In a fiery post on X (formerly Twitter), she emphasized that Mexico seeks collaboration and dialogue, not confrontation, with its northern neighbor.
\"We categorically reject the White House's slander that the Mexican government has alliances with criminal organizations, as well as any intention of meddling in our territory,\" Sheinbaum wrote.
Since taking office in October, Sheinbaum highlighted her government's strides in battling drug trafficking, including seizing 20 million doses of the deadly synthetic opioid fentanyl and arresting over 10,0000 individuals linked to drug networks.
Meanwhile, north of the border, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is also stepping into the ring. On Saturday, he announced that Canada will slap 25% tariffs on C$155 billion ($106.5 billion) worth of U.S. goods. Starting Tuesday, C$30 billion worth of goods will be targeted, with an additional C$125 billion set to be taxed in the next 21 days.
Looks like the trade game is heating up! Stay tuned as these economic powerhouses face off in a tariff tango. 🎶🌎
