China Eyes Provisional Duties on EU Pork Imports 🐷🍖

Hey pork lovers! 🐖 China might soon make importing pork from the European Union (EU) a bit pricier. On Thursday, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce hinted at possible provisional anti-dumping duties on pork and piggy by-products from the EU. 🐽

What's the deal? Well, back on June 17, China started investigating whether EU pork producers were selling their products at unfairly low prices in the Chinese market—a practice known as \"dumping.\" 🕵️‍♂️

According to He Yadong, the spokesperson for the Ministry, if the ongoing probe finds that this \"dumping\" is harming Chinese pig farmers and the local pork industry, China might slap on some temporary duties. This is all in line with World Trade Organization (WTO) rules and China's own anti-dumping regulations. 🌐📜

The investigation covers pork and piggy products imported from the EU between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023. It also looks into any damage to the Chinese pork industry during the same period. 🗓️

The entire probe is expected to wrap up before June 17, 2025, but if things get complicated, it might extend for another six months. 🕰️⏳

Why should you care? Because this move could affect pork prices and availability, both in China and possibly around the globe. So, if you're a fan of bacon or sausages, keep an eye (and your chopsticks) on this space! 🥓🍴
