Hey there, ever heard the phrase 'shooting yourself in the foot'? Well, that's what China thinks the EU is about to do! 
Li Chao, the spokesperson for China's National Development and Reform Commission, dropped some truth bombs 
at a press conference on Tuesday.
He slammed the European Union's plan to slap extra tariffs on electric vehicles (EVs) imported from the Chinese mainland. The EU is considering adding duties ranging from 17.4% to a whopping 38.1% on top of the standard 10% vehicle tax! 
Li didn't hold back. He said the investigation leading to these tariffs was \"weaponized and politicized,\" and that it could totally mess up fair competition. 
According to Li, if the EU goes ahead with these plans, it's not just Chinese companies that will feel the burn. European companies might also get caught in the crossfire, disrupting global automotive supply chains—including those in Europe! 
But wait, there's more! Li warned that EU consumers could end up paying the price 
, and the move might slow down the EU's shift to greener, low-carbon technologies. Talk about a lose-lose situation! 
He urged the EU to think twice 
, respect economic laws and World Trade Organization rules, and listen to its own industries. \"Shortsighted trade protectionism is not an option,\" Li said.
