China and Portugal Team Up to Boost Global Trade 🌍

In a bid to strengthen international economic ties, Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao met with Portuguese Economy Minister Pedro Reis in Lisbon this Tuesday. The dynamic duo discussed exciting new ways to ramp up bilateral trade and cooperation between their countries.

Wang expressed China's eagerness to work hand-in-hand with Portugal to bring to life the outcomes of the 6th Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries—famously known as Forum Macao—held earlier this year in Macao.

Addressing fair competition, Wang didn't hold back! He critiqued recent trade protection measures by the EU, highlighting how they've thrown a wrench into mutually beneficial industrial collaborations and shaken the confidence of Chinese businesses investing in Europe. \"Protectionism isn't the answer—it's a risky road to nowhere,\" he emphasized.

Wang called for open dialogues with the EU to tackle economic and trade issues. He advocated for fair competition grounded in expanded cooperation to give China-European trade relations a major upgrade.

Echoing Wang's sentiments, Reis agreed that expanding cooperation and ensuring fair play are the go-to moves to combat trade protectionism. He stressed the importance of beefing up partnerships between Chinese and Portuguese companies to inject some positive vibes into global economic growth.

But that's not all! Reis shared Portugal's enthusiasm to amp up collaboration with China in areas like mutual investment, trading agricultural and food products (yum!), cultural exchanges, and teaming up in third-party markets. Plus, he wants to level up the role of Forum Macao.

Looks like China and Portugal are gearing up to make some serious waves in the global economy! Stay tuned for more updates on this international power partnership. 🚀
