China’s Brandy Probe Isn’t Targeting Any EU Country, Minister Says 🍷🇨🇳

Hey there, brandy enthusiasts! 🍷 Have you heard the latest buzz? China has made it clear that its anti-dumping investigation into European Union (EU) brandy isn't targeting any specific EU member state, and there are no predetermined findings! 🙌

China's Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao, spilled the tea (or should we say brandy?) in Paris on Monday. He emphasized that the probe was initiated after a complaint from the domestic brandy industry and will be conducted openly and transparently, following Chinese law and World Trade Organization (WTO) rules. All stakeholders' rights will be fully safeguarded. 🛡️

The exciting part? French brandy producers and trade associations are totally on board! 🇫🇷 Five French brandy producers and three trade associations met with Wang and expressed their willingness to cooperate with the investigation. They’re keen on continuing to develop their businesses in the Chinese market. 🤝

The investigation kicked off in January after the China Alcoholic Drinks Association filed a request on behalf of the domestic industry. It focuses on EU-produced brandy in containers holding less than 200 liters imported between October 1, 2022, and September 30, 2023. The probe is expected to wrap up before January 5, 2025, but could be extended by six months if needed. 🗓️

Bonus fact: 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France! 🎉 Wang highlighted the bright prospects for economic and trade cooperation between the two nations. With China designating 2024 as the year of promoting consumption, there's a huge opportunity for imported quality products. Wang warmly welcomed French companies to hop on board and share the growth. 🚀

So, here's to stronger ties and more delicious brandy flowing between China and the EU! Cheers! 🥂
