👀 Spring Eye Wellness: Prevent Dry Eye and Myopia!

Did you know that springtime can be tough on your eyes? 👀 As flowers bloom and allergies kick in, symptoms of dry eye syndrome and allergic conjunctivitis reach their peak. But don't worry! We've got some tips to help you keep your eyes comfy and clear.

Sun Xinghuai, director at the Key Laboratory of Myopia at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, shared some insights with CGTN on how we can prevent dry eye and myopia.

What's Dry Eye Syndrome?

Dry eye syndrome happens when your eyes don't produce enough tears, or the tears evaporate too quickly. This can make your eyes feel gritty, itchy, or like there's something stuck in them. Ouch!

Why Does It Get Worse in Spring?

Spring brings higher pollen counts 🌸, which can irritate your eyes and make dry eye symptoms worse. Plus, windy days can cause your tears to evaporate faster.

Tips to Keep Your Eyes Happy

  • Blink Often: When using screens, we tend to blink less. Remember to blink to keep your eyes moist!
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to help your body produce tears.
  • Wear Sunglasses: They protect your eyes from wind and pollen.
  • Take Screen Breaks: Follow the 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
  • Use a Humidifier: Adding moisture to the air can help prevent your eyes from drying out.

Preventing Myopia

With more time spent indoors and on devices, myopia (nearsightedness) is on the rise among young people. Here are some tips:

  • Get Outside: Spend at least two hours a day outdoors to give your eyes a break.
  • Limit Screen Time: Try to reduce time spent on phones, tablets, and computers.
  • Eye Exercises: Practice focusing on distant objects to strengthen your eyes.
  • Regular Check-ups: Visit an eye doctor regularly to catch any issues early.

Your eyes are your windows to the world 🌎. Let's keep them shining bright!
