Hamas announced on Monday that it's fully ready to transfer administrative powers in Gaza to a newly-formed 15-member Palestinian technocratic committee, marking the second phase of the Gaza peace deal.
In a statement by the Hamas-run Gaza government media office, the group vowed a smooth and orderly transition that protects public sector rights and keeps essential services running for civilians. They also tied the handover to demands for a complete end to what they called Israeli "aggression" in Gaza.
The committee, tasked with Gaza's post-war administration, officially launched its work this week in Cairo, focusing first on the territory's humanitarian needs. Its arrival was delayed by a day, according to an Egyptian source, due to Israeli obstruction.
💬 Mahmoud Basal of Gaza Civil Defense reported continued violence on Monday: three Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire in Khan Younis and Rafah. He called attacks on shelters and residential areas "blatant violations" of humanitarian law.
Local sources also spoke of Israeli airstrikes east of Khan Younis, artillery shelling in eastern Gaza and the demolition of homes. The Israeli side has not commented on these incidents.
Since the October 2025 ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, at least 465 Palestinians have died, bringing the Gaza death toll since October 2023 to 71,550, Gaza-based health authorities said Monday.
The handover and ongoing calls for sovereignty and the right to rebuild highlight the Palestinians' enduring goal: an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. 🕊️
