📢 Bulgaria is heading towards its eighth snap election in just four years after the reformist PP-DB group declined President Rumen Radev's invitation to form a new government. 🤔
Last month, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov's GERB-SDS coalition resigned amid street protests over a proposed budget that would have raised taxes. In line with the constitution, President Radev first asked GERB-SDS to try again – they said no. Then, on January 14, 2026, PP-DB also declined the mandate, according to BTA.
Now, Radev must offer the chance to govern to another party. If that party refuses, Bulgaria will head to the polls for the eighth time since 2022. 🇧🇬
All this comes just days after Bulgaria officially joined the eurozone on January 1, a milestone that could boost investment and help modernize its infrastructure. But without a stable government, delivering on those promises will be a major challenge.
Stay tuned as Bulgaria prepares for another high-stakes vote that could reshape its political landscape and its future in the EU. 🌍✨
