China Urges Respect for All Nations’ Rights in the Arctic 🌊

On Monday, Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, urged that the lawful rights and freedoms of all countries to conduct activities in the Arctic must be fully respected. Her comments came after US President Donald Trump suggested that the United States needs to take control of Greenland to prevent China and Russia from taking over Denmark's Arctic territory.

“China’s activities in the Arctic aim to promote peace, stability and sustainable development in the region, in line with international law,” Mao Ning said during a regular news briefing. “The Arctic involves the overall interests of the international community, and the United States should not use other countries as a pretext for pursuing its own interests.”

This exchange highlights the growing global interest in the Arctic. As melting ice opens new routes and access to resources, nations are increasingly keen to secure their stakes. For young people in Latin America and beyond, the unfolding story in the North is a reminder of how climate change, geopolitics and law intersect on the world stage. 🌐❄️
