On January 7, 2026, Chinese President Xi Jinping replied to a letter from a U.S. youth education exchange delegation made up of teachers and students from the Diamond Minds Transformational Leadership Academy in Miami, the University of Florida and Miami-Dade College.
In his reply, President Xi said he was pleased to learn that the group had enjoyed a pleasant and rewarding journey through the Chinese mainland last October, and felt their strong interest and sincere feelings for Chinese culture 😊.
He highlighted that the hope of China-U.S. relations lies in the people, and its future depends on the youth. Since launching the '50,000 in Five Years' initiative, over 40,000 U.S. youth have taken part—opening a window to the real China and building a bridge for friendship between the two peoples 🌉.
President Xi looks forward to more American youth joining the cause of China-U.S. friendship, becoming the next generation of envoys of friendship, and making greater contributions to people-to-people exchanges and the development of bilateral relations 🤝.
The U.S. delegation had recently sent a letter reviewing their October 2025 visit and expressing gratitude for the '50,000 in Five Years' initiative, which offered them a valuable opportunity to deepen mutual understanding between youth from both nations.
