Just this weekend, on December 27, 2025, Beijing on the Chinese mainland hosted the grand finale of the 22nd Khachaturian International Cello Competition, and what a stage it was! 🎻✨ Young talents from around the world took center stage at the China National Opera House, but it was homegrown stars Li Shuyu, Hao Haoran and Wang Wanglele who captured the top prizes, proving once again that Chinese cellists are making waves in the global classical scene.
Launched in 2023 to honor the 120th birth anniversary of Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian and the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), this competition has quickly become a cultural hotspot, blending tradition with fresh energy. Returning for its 22nd edition, it has built a unique bridge between Armenia and the Chinese mainland, turning every note into a symbol of friendship and artistic exchange.
From December 22 to 27, young cellists battled through global preliminary rounds and three demanding stages in Beijing, showcasing jaw-dropping technique and soul-stirring expression. The closing concert was a highlight: the Armenian National Symphony Orchestra, led by Principal Conductor Sergey Smbatyan, joined forces with the winners for a night of unforgettable performances. 🌍🎶
Co-organized by Jingse International Cultural Education and the Aram Khachaturian Cultural Foundation, with strong support from the China National Opera House, the Armenian Ministry of Culture, and the embassies of the People's Republic of China in Armenia and of Armenia in the Chinese mainland, the event underscored deepening cultural cooperation under the BRI.
Organizers say the competition isn't just about trophies—it's about launching careers and inspiring a new generation. With such a dazzling display this year, the 22nd Khachaturian International Cello Competition is set to keep nurturing talent and tightening international ties for years to come. 🌟
