Hey, eco-warriors! 🌱 The Chinese mainland's National Forestry and Grassland Administration reports impressive gains in conserving forestry and grassland germplasm resources during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021–2025). Here’s the scoop:
Over the past five years, around 147,400 germplasm samples have been collected—a whopping 180% jump since the end of 2020. That’s like going from level 1 to boss level in biodiversity management! 🎮
Key genetic resources for native trees and grasses, including rare and endangered species, are now safely preserved. Plus, the utilization rate of improved varieties for major afforestation tree species soared from 65% at the end of 2020 to 76% this year. 🚀
How did they do it? A three-year action plan rolled out fresh measures to protect and use these genetic treasures, boost breeding innovation, and tighten market oversight.
Infrastructure has also gotten a major upgrade: seven national germplasm resource facilities and 209 in situ and ex situ conservation sites are now up and running across the Chinese mainland.
This milestone shows how targeted planning and innovation can level up our planet’s green game. Ready for more sustainability wins? Stay tuned! ✨
