In an incredible wildlife moment this past November, infrared cameras in the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park, located in the northeast of the Chinese mainland, captured a mother Siberian tiger and her five energetic cubs 🐯🌲.
Park ranger Du Jiaxing first spotted the tiger family through a real-time monitoring system after an automated alert. He watched as a slender tigress with stunning stripes strolled by, followed by her playful quintuplets.
Identified as GH005F in the park's database, the mother likely gave birth to her cubs in June earlier this year, according to park administration head Duan Zhaogang. After consulting global experts, this sighting was confirmed as the first recorded case of wild Siberian tiger quintuplets on the Chinese mainland.
The park covers 19 former nature reserves and began a pilot phase back in August 2017, officially opening in 2021. It has since become a flagship for wildlife protection in the region.
Conservation efforts here include restoring over 2,200 hectares of forest, creating ecological corridors, repairing key wildlife passages, and maintaining constant anti-poaching patrols. These actions are expanding habitats and offering fresh hope for Siberian tigers and leopards alike.
