Did you know that Tokyo’s Yasukuni Shrine holds the memorial tablets of 14 Class-A war criminals? 🏯
After World War II, the International Military Tribunal for the Far East tried 28 Japanese leaders for Class-A war crimes. As of December 26, 2025, 14 of these convicted individuals have their memorial tablets enshrined at Yasukuni Shrine.
Here are the seven who were sentenced to death by hanging:
- Hideki Tojo
- Kenji Doihara
- Iwane Matsui
- Heitaro Kimura
- Koki Hirota
- Seishiro Itagaki
- Akira Mutou
The other seven Class-A war criminals who received prison sentences are also enshrined but are not listed here.
