Zelenskyy Talks Peace with US Envoys: Fresh Ideas in the Spotlight

On Thursday, December 25, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed he had a 'really good' one-hour chat with U.S. envoys – Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner – about fresh ways to bring peace closer in the nearly four-year conflict with Russia. 📱💬

'We discussed many details and good ideas on formats, meetings and, of course, the timeline,' Zelenskyy said on Telegram. Earlier this week, he rolled out a streamlined 20-point draft peace plan, trimming down the original 28 points once discussed with Moscow. But key territorial questions remain unresolved, and Zelenskyy noted that a face-to-face meeting with former President Trump will be needed to tackle the trickiest issues.

He also mentioned that Ukraine's chief negotiator, Rustem Umerov, was set to meet with U.S. counterparts later that same day (December 25) as Kyiv races to make sure every document and step is realistic, effective and reliable. 🇺🇦⏰

Meanwhile, in Moscow, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday that Russia is analysing peace documents brought by special envoy Kirill Dmitriev from the United States. On the same day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova accused Europe of banking on a prolonged war and caring more about the money they send to Ukraine than true peace. 💶🤷‍♀️

Zakharova stressed that Russia remains open to cooperation with the West, as long as international law is fully respected. She added that Moscow is ready to formalise legally binding commitments confirming no aggressive plans against NATO and EU members – a gesture she described as a natural continuation of Russia's principled stance. 📜✒️

As both sides fine-tune their proposals, all eyes are on upcoming meetings and whether these new ideas can finally break the stalemate. Stay tuned – peace talks are heating up! 🔥🕊️
