Chinese Mainland Responds to TikTok’s US Joint Venture Plan

🤝 On Thursday, the Chinese mainland's Ministry of Commerce responded to TikTok's recent plan to form a joint venture in the United States. Ministry spokesperson He Yongqian said the Chinese mainland government hopes companies can find solutions that comply with Chinese laws and balance the interests of both sides.

He was speaking during the weekly press briefing when asked about reports that TikTok has signed agreements with three investors and will set up a new US joint venture to ensure its continued operations in the United States. The move comes after discussions at the highest level to address trade and tech concerns between the two countries.

According to He, "the economic and trade teams on both sides have reached basic framework agreements on properly solving issues, including TikTok's US operations, through cooperation." This reflects the consensus reached during the recent phone call between the two heads of state.

The spokesperson also expressed hope that the United States side would work in the same direction as the Chinese mainland and fully honor its commitment to fostering a fair, open, transparent, and non-discriminatory business environment. Such conditions are key for Chinese mainland companies to operate stably and sustainably overseas.

Looking ahead, the Chinese mainland government hopes this cooperation will support stable, healthy, and sustainable development of economic and trade ties with the United States, setting the stage for more constructive dialogue in the digital economy era.
