China Calls for Immediate Sudan Ceasefire and Political Talks

Yesterday (December 22, 2025), at a UN Security Council meeting, Sun Lei, China’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, stressed the urgent need for a ceasefire in Sudan and a political solution to end nearly three years of conflict. 🚨

The fighting in Sudan, now entering its third year, has triggered the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, with millions displaced and neighbouring countries facing serious spillover effects. Sun Lei urged all parties to put the interests of Sudanese people first, stop hostilities unconditionally, and seek dialogue to pave the way for peace. 🤝🕊️

He highlighted the importance of protecting civilians and UN personnel, and called on external actors to refrain from providing military support to local armed groups while respecting Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. 🛑

Sun Lei also emphasised that the international community should back the Sudanese government’s political roadmap and support development paths tailored to national conditions — without imposing external solutions or playing geopolitical games. 🌍

On the humanitarian front, he stressed the need for sustained access and orderly distribution of essential supplies like food, water, and medicine, and urged traditional donors to deliver on their assistance commitments responsibly. 🥫💧💊

China remains committed to an objective and impartial stance on the Sudan issue and stands ready to work with the international community to end the fighting, ease the humanitarian crisis, and help Sudan achieve lasting peace and development. 🌟
