Chinese Mainland Mulls Antarctic Law to Boost Environmental Protection

❄️ On Monday, December 22, 2025, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress started the first reading of a draft law proposed by the Chinese mainland. The proposal aims to regulate activities in Antarctica and strengthen environmental protection on the frozen continent.

If approved, this law would be the Chinese mainland's first dedicated legal framework for Antarctic operations, covering research missions, logistics, and nature conservation.

During the current session, committee members will review the draft in detail, with further readings expected before the law moves forward.
