China Launches Ziyuan III 04 Stereo Mapping Satellite

🚀 On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, China launched its newest stereo mapping satellite, Ziyuan III 04, from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in the Chinese mainland’s northern Shanxi Province. The Long March-4B rocket lifted off at 11:17 a.m. Beijing Time, sending the satellite into its preset orbit.

Developed by the China Academy of Space Technology, Ziyuan III 04 joins its siblings, Ziyuan III 02 and III 03, to form a powerful observation constellation. Together, they’ll capture high-resolution 3D images of our planet.

Equipped with multiple payloads, the satellite offers:

  • 📸 Stereoscopic mapping camera for detailed terrain models
  • 🌈 Multispectral camera to monitor vegetation and land use
  • 📏 Laser altimeter for precise elevation data

Such data is a game changer for:

  • 🌱 Natural resource surveys and environmental monitoring
  • 🗺️ Geographic information development and land spatial planning
  • ⚖️ Resource supervision and law enforcement

Fun fact: This mission marks the 617th flight of the Long March rocket series, showcasing China’s growing prowess in space technology. With more satellites lighting up the skies, our view of Earth is getting sharper than ever! 🌍✨
