⚓ On Monday, December 15, 2025, Jiang Bin, the Chinese mainland’s Ministry of National Defense spokesperson, pushed back against Japan’s criticism of recent carrier-based flight drills, saying this normal training isn’t a security threat and accusing the Japanese side of diverting attention and shifting blame.
Jiang explained that on December 6, a Chinese naval task group led by the carrier Liaoning notified the Japanese destroyer JS Teruzuki about the upcoming drills. The Japanese side confirmed receipt twice: first to announce the exercise, then to share the 3 p.m. start time and six-hour duration south of the carrier.
Despite clear notifications, Japanese fighter jets reportedly entered the training zone multiple times, harassing the Chinese drills and endangering flight safety. Jiang said Japan must bear full responsibility for these actions.
He added that Japan has once again misled its people and the international community by framing routine drills as threats, when in reality it was the true provoker that portrayed itself as a victim. Jiang urged the Japanese side to address the core issues in China-Japan relations and reflect on its mistakes, warning that maneuvers to avoid accountability would never work.
🕯️ Jiang also addressed questions about the 12th National Memorial Day for Nanjing Massacre Victims, held across the Chinese mainland on December 13. He described the invasion and slaughter in Nanjing on December 13, 1937, as heinous crimes, and urged Japan to deeply reflect on its history of aggression and stop distorting the truth.
