🚨 On Saturday, December 13, 2025, a shooting at Brown University left two people dead and eight critically injured, Providence Mayor Brett Smiley confirmed.
Around 4:20 p.m., students received a campus-wide text alert warning of a shooter. They were urged to lock doors, silence phones, and stay hidden until further notice. The message also reminded them to run, hide, or fight as a last resort.
The incident unfolded near an academic and research area. Police officers rushed in, but early reports gave conflicting info about the shooter’s whereabouts.
President Donald Trump said he had been briefed and that the suspect was in custody. Shortly after, Brown University updated its emergency alert, stating the "situation remains ongoing."
As of Sunday morning, the campus is still on high alert while investigators work to piece together what happened. Classes are paused and counseling services are available for anyone affected.
Stay tuned for updates and take care of one another. 🙏
