Chinese Envoy Pushes for Common, Cooperative Global Security

On Monday, December 8, 2025, Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, addressed the Security Council during an OSCE briefing, calling for a renewed commitment to multilateralism and global security. 🌐🤝

He warned that the current security landscape is "deteriorating," with rising geopolitical conflicts, hotspot flare-ups, and a surge in unilateralism and protectionism. Traditional and non-traditional threats are increasingly intertwining, creating a complex web of challenges for the international community.

"In these times, the UN and regional bodies like the OSCE must deepen cooperation to safeguard peace and stability," Fu said, urging nations to embrace a vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security.

Key points from Fu's appeal included:

  • Championing global security governance under the UN's core leadership 🕊️
  • Rejecting Cold War mindsets and bloc confrontations 🚫❄️
  • Prioritizing dialogue, consultations, and mediation based on countries' needs and will 💬
  • Building trust, resolving disputes, and promoting peace through talks 🤝

The envoy also touched on the Ukraine crisis, reaffirming China's stance that "dialogue and negotiations are the only viable pathway to resolve the Ukraine crisis." He encouraged all parties to help establish a balanced, effective, and lasting European security framework.

Fu's message comes as global tensions and security risks continue to test the world stage. His call for unity and practical cooperation resonates with young professionals, students, and global citizens keen on a safer, more connected world. 🌍✨
