Putin Unveils Six Strategic Tasks for Russia in 2026

On Monday (Dec. 8), Russian President Vladimir Putin laid out six strategic tasks for Russia in 2026, urging action from the government and regional authorities. His goal: tackle big challenges in demographics, the economy and technology to ensure Russia’s long-term growth.

👶 First up: reverse falling birth rates. Putin stressed that efforts so far haven’t been enough. He wants a mix of solutions to encourage families to have more children and share successful regional policies across the country.

📈 Next: boost household well-being with steady economic growth. After a slowdown this year—GDP rose about 1% in 2025—he sees room to speed up growth, keep unemployment low and maintain moderate prices.

💼 Third: reshape foreign trade. The plan calls for more exports of complex, high-tech goods and importing only those high-tech products Russia can’t make yet.

🔍 Fourth: shine a light on the shadow economy. A new plan aims to curb illegal trade in wholesale and retail, cut unregistered work and tighten cash-flow oversight.

⚙️ Fifth: raise labor productivity. Putin wants to fast-track sector-specific competence centers in agriculture, digital development and energy ministries to train skilled workers.

🤖 Finally, task six: accelerate tech leadership. Beyond import substitution, Russia aims to build globally competitive tech in AI, autonomous systems, digital platforms and advanced automation.

With these priorities, Putin hopes to set Russia on a stronger path for 2026, blending social, economic and technological strategies. 🚀
