China Accuses Japan’s SDF Jets of Disrupting Naval Training

Earlier today (Sunday, Dec 7), China's People's Liberation Army Navy spokesperson said that jets from Japan's Self-Defense Forces disrupted routine flight drills for carrier-based fighters aboard the aircraft carrier Liaoning. The training took place east of the Miyako Strait, in waters the PLA Navy had announced in advance.

Spokesperson Wang Xuemeng explained that SDF aircraft repeatedly entered designated areas, causing disturbances that posed serious risks to flight safety and derailed the exercises. "Japan's hype on the matter is completely inconsistent with the facts," Wang said.

The Chinese Navy "solemnly demands" that the Japanese side immediately stop what it called "smear and slander" and rein in its frontline forces. Wang also warned that the navy will take all necessary legal measures to protect its security and legitimate rights.

This incident highlights the challenges of conducting naval drills in busy East China Sea waters. While both sides manage tensions through diplomatic channels, this showdown shows how quickly routine exercises can spark regional headlines. 🌊🛩️
